Richmond, Kentucky is on the southern edge of the Commonwealth's beautiful Bluegrass Region. With a population of more than 27,000, Richmond is easily accessible by I-75 and is the seat of Madison County, one of the fastest growing counties in the state. Richmond was founded in 1798 by Colonel John Miller, a Revolutionary War soldier, and named Richmond in honor of Miller's birthplace, Richmond, Virginia. With over 100 buildings on the National Register of Historic Places and three National Register Historic Districts, downtown Richmond is considered one of the Commonwealth's finest restored 19th century commercial districts. Richmond is also home to Eastern Kentucky University and Fort Boonesborough State Park.
